Sonic the Hedgehog 3 doesn’t seem to be a Christmas movie, but that hasn’t stopped Paramount from leaning into the fact that the movie is launching less than a week before the holiday. Jim Carrey has at least one scene in the film dressed as Santa Claus, and now Paramount has released several parody posters referencing holiday film classics. This time, however, they star the blue blur, all his friends, and even his enemies. Paramount picked some of the most obvious seasonal favorites like Elf, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Home Alone, now re-imagined with Jim Carrey’s face on them. Click through to see all nine posters.
These posters come as part of a “12 Hours of Sonic” promotional push that included several holiday-themed giveaways and a stop-motion short that seems like an homage to the classic Rankin/Bass animated Christmas specials. All the Sonic characters who appear in the short are voiced by their actors from the movie, including Keanu Reeves, who makes a brief appearance as Shadow at the tail end. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will officially debut in theaters on December 20, but some early impressions from advanced screenings are trickling out on social media. Several people are calling it the best movie in the series thus far, and have said the film’s post-credits scene is a big surprise. We have our theories about what Sonic character might show up at the end, but myself and other fans are holding out hope that the thieving treasure hunter Rouge the Bat is going to show up in the movie proper, rather than just in a post-credits tease.
At some point today, Sega is releasing DLC for Shadow Generations that will add a new level and a Keanu Reeves-voiced skin to the game. We’ll have thoughts on that when it launches, but for now, you can check out Kotaku’s review of Shadow Generations.
