McDonald’s Japan-Only Evangelion Figures Leak Online

McDonald’s is teasing a collaboration between itself and the extremely popular Evangelion anime franchise. But while the figures in the collab have yet to be announced, they have apparently leaked online via a promotional poster. The leak provides more details on the crossover, which is seemingly only going to be available in Japan.

On December 17, the official McDonald’s Japan Twitter account tweeted out a single image that, according to Google, translates to “Notice.” The teaser image also contained copyright text for “Project EVA” and Khara, the studio behind the Rebuild of Evangelion series, which all seemed to point to an Evangelion collab. And then on December 18, via Reddit, a poster for the teased collaboration leaked online.

As seen on the leaked poster, the Evangelion crossover with McDonald’s will include three figures that appear to transform. These three transforming mechs are hybrids of McDonald’s food items and robots seen in the franchise.

According to translated text on the poster, the figures will cost $25. Folks in Japan will be able to register for a chance to buy them via the McDonald’s app starting on December 19. That lottery period ends on January 10, 2024. After that, selected winners will be able to buy the limited-edition figures from January 20-26.

A December 18 tweet from McDonald’s Japan further confirms the Evangelion collaboration is real. It’s likely to be officially announced in the next 24 hours.

This latest collab is far from McDonald’s first. Earlier this year, the fast food giant did a large crossover promotion with Yu-Gi-Oh and Hello Kitty. And in 2022, the burger chain did a collaboration with Gundam.

Sadly for those looking to get their hands on some of these Evangelion figures, history tells us that they will remain exclusive to Japan. McDonald’s crossover promotions tend to be regional and not global, so if you want some of these transforming toys, you’ll need to live in Japan or be prepared to pay a premium on eBay next year.
